I had hoped, that in your answer, you would have gone through the scope of history to address these questions, since history is the best record of reality (how things have played out) that we have, and then followed it through to the state of things today.
To begin with, people have always differed from one another in small or large ways. But the idea of differing in essential value, being "better" or "worse" than another, whether groups or individuals, was not manufactured by religious faith, any more than it was manufactured by Charles Darwin. From very early on in the story of humanity, there has been the struggle to dominate, and necessarily, a struggle for power or domination of others flows from the fundamental idea of supremacy of some sort, of merit based on cultural preference.
To clarify the outlook of biblical Judeo-Christian doctrine and to sort out where the dreaded class warfare you cite truly originated: God, like any good teacher, chose one man to found a nation, "a special people" and He did this, the Bible instructs, for the good of all mankind. To explain: God made it clear, to Abraham, that His promises to give Abraham a great family lineage were for the sake of a larger purpose than just Abraham's place in posterity. He intended that "through you all the nations of the world will be blessed." (He was alluding, in the Genesis account, to the messiah who would come from the family line of Abraham much later, the savior who, upon rising from death, would instruct his faithful to go "unto all the world" with the good news of a way back to God.) He did not speak to Abraham as if he were a glowing paragon of virtue, and compliment him to puff up his confidence in himself. Instead, God told him to get up, pack his life, and head out wherever he was directed. The Hebrew people that grew up from Abraham's son and grandson, in the main, retained through their history the knowledge that they were blessed by God because He chose to love them, not because they were so great that God couldn't help Himself. David expressed this humility, "Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?" (II Sam. 7:18) and it is a theme woven through his songs, that Israel always seemed to come out alright in the end, by God's miraculous hand, when they ought by rights to have been destroyed. Why must God always have been working the miraculous, except a) to show them the blessing that followed their loyalty to God, and b)to show to the rest of the world, the blessing that follows loyalty to God.
It was never the plan to give the Hebrew (Jewish) nation a sense-of-superiority complex. They found out, over and over again, if you read their history in the Old Testament, that God could also be a tough disciplinarian when they went astray.
In the course of worldwide human history, and particularly from the time of splitting the ONE human race into many groups by the confusion of their language (Babel), as people groups (not "races") began to look and sound and dress and live in ever more disparate ways, a part of their very difference would engender preference, bias, prejudice in its basest sense...and ideas of superior and inferior quality and value "naturally" arose, and were reinforced in times of such stresses as would be helped by exploiting that latent-but-present conviction - famine/failure of crops might call for taking someone else's cropland or hunting ground, war would result in the taking of land and the enslavement of the conquered group. All of these obstacles to living in brotherly love were present and accounted for well before the birth of Christianity, or the publishing of The Origin of Species.
Darwin's theory, predicated in part on the ideas of Alfred Russel Wallace, seized on the observable similiarities of design and construction between species and assumed that there could be no other possible explanation than a chain of descent. He opened the door wider than ever before, to the validation of ethnic prejudice and discrimination based on appearance. Far from being a benefit to society, this held some extremely harmful implications. The writers and thinkers, movers and shakers who imbibed and believed Darwin's work, set about to shape the world thenceforth in this image: that the ethnic groups of the world represented separate "races" which were all descended from apes, and, what should be most embarrassing for evolutionists and political-correctness types today, that the degree of removal from the primate stage is indicated by the color of the skin and other body characteristics. Don't believe me? See H.G. Wells' History of the World, typical of evolutionist influence. He predicated everything on the primordial slop, step by step, until he has White people (who tended to be some classification of "Christian") on top of the developmental pyramid, and the "darker races" at the bottom. I picked up a copy of this book at a library booksale, not knowing what it contained, and after struggling through a third of it, was so disgusted and angered, I decided to burn the thing. A futile gesture, I admit, since the book and others of its ilk have already done their work.
As I have said before, all ideas have consequences. You cannot expect that this sort of idea will "engender peace" in society. Nor has it. Instead, it is the breeding ground for all sorts of classification, and that leads to class warfare. "Survival of the fittest" is a malevolent idea that spawns its own brood of horrible children, including "euthanasia", "quality of life" being decided by some expert who can then condone "mercy killing", "birth control" to include aborting, murdering of unborn children, and massive programs of "ethnic cleansing" a la Stalin, Hitler, Pol Pot, Saddam Hussein, etc.
Who benefits when we are all convinced that there is no God, and that we are all an effect of a chance mistake in a long chain of mutation? Answer, those who consider themselves worthy to constitute the upper eschelon, the ruling class, the benevolent despots who know where we all belong in society, who should plant the seed, who should harvest it, who should weave the cloth, who should write the advertising jingles, who should be allowed to reproduce, who should be privileged to write the laws and who should be able to live above or outside of them.
It is the secular, evolutionist, socialist/communist bent that seeks the forcible "equalizing" of everybody...and in the process, wiping out all individuality. "Peace," through the death of individuality, of creativity, of nuclear family-centered society, "progress" through the sacrifice of God, Family, and Country to the worship of the State.
No other outlook has so allowed and fostered and preserved the idea of individual worth, of value endowed by God, upon the individual, as the Judeo-Christian, Graeco-Roman influenced democratic, capitalist bent has. How many people of philosophy and science and art and have fled to the free countries of the "decadent west" where their ideas and inventions and abilities have then been brought forth to bless and benefit the whole world? Our "great experiment" in representative democracy/democratic republicanism, brought forth on this continent and bearing the indelible stamp of Judeo-Christian values, created a playing field on which the silversmith and the leather tanner and the judge and the farmer and the schoolteacher all had intrinsic value, because they were simply men. Their worth to society was judged not by what titles or holdings they had had in the Old World, but by what they could make of their lives, unencumbered by an artificial class/caste system. Equality of voice was the given, and equality of worth was not argued, assumed as it was in the declaration that "all men are created equal, and...endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights".
And DOES the theory of evolution satisfy the essential questions of our existence? Does it tell you WHO you are, WHY you are here, THE MEANING of life...does evolution posit and explain human stewardship of or responsibility towards the planet? Does evolution explain the non-physical attributes of humankind: thought, emotion, discrimination/choice, passions/ideals, or does it leave out these "essential" facets altogether?
The article showed that people's acceptance of evolution is commensurate with their level of education. BUT. What is education, in this time, but extended exposure to the indoctrination of this theory? (It comes at students from all quarters, in their science, philosophy, comparative religion and literature and even art classes.) So, be comforted by that round of statistics if you are so inclined. Now, take that to the "'hood" nearest you, and see how many friends you make, handing out flyers to a lecture on evolutionary theory that shows Black people descending from apes. The human spirit, the shared human spirit, KNOWS this to be wrong, both ethnically and ethically. It is a disgusting attempt here, to correlate "education" (implication: intelligence), with acceptance of a theory - a THEORY - that purposely strips the image of man's Creator from mankind, leaving him a soul-less, animalistic, malleable worm, ripe for exploitation by those who decide to place themselves at the top of the chain.
